Amazon Commits $10,000 in Additional Support to Prevent Drunk Driving in Greater Washington Over the Independence Day Holiday

NEW INVESTMENT FORTIFIES JULY 4TH SOBERRIDE® PROGRAM DURING A HOLIDAY WHEN OVER 40% OF U.S. TRAFFIC DEATHS INVOLVE DUI

Washington, DC, June 30 – Today Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN), already a supporter of the Washington-metropolitan area’s popular free safe ride service to prevent drunk driving, SoberRide®, announced it will invest an additional $10,000 to fortify the anti-DUI effort during next month’s Independence Day effort.

Offered by the nonprofit Washington Regional Alcohol Program (WRAP), the 2022 Independence Day SoberRide program will be in operation beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, July 4th (Independence Day) and operate until 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5th offering free safe rides to would-be drunk drivers throughout the Washington-metropolitan area as a means of keeping local roads safe during this traditionally high-risk holiday.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, over 40-percent (41%) of U.S. traffic deaths involve drunk drivers.*

Amazon already serves as an Executive-level sponsor of the local SoberRide® program.

During the twelve-hour period when SoberRide® is offered over the 2022 Independence Day holiday, Greater Washington area residents age 21 and older celebrating with alcohol may download the Lyft app to their phones, then enter the SoberRide code in the app’s “Payment” tab (under the “Add Lyft Pass” option) to receive their no-cost (up to $15) safe transportation home. WRAP’s 2022 Independence Day SoberRide® promo code will be posted at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, July 4th on www.SoberRide.com.

SoberRide® is offered throughout Lyft’s Washington D.C. coverage area which includes all or parts of: the District of Columbia; the Maryland counties of Montgomery and Prince George’s and towns therein plus the cities of Bowie, College Park, District Heights, Gaithersburg. Glenarden, Greenbelt, Hyattsville, Laurel, Mount Ranier, New Carrollton, Rockville, Seat Pleasant and Takoma Park; and the Northern Virginia counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William and towns therein plus the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, Manassas and Manassas Park.
